Meta has introduced a new standalone app called Forum, giving Facebook Groups their own dedicated platform away from the regular Facebook feed.
The new app was reportedly discovered without any official announcement from Meta. Forum is designed to create a more focused experience for users who actively participate in Facebook Groups and online communities.
According to the App Store description, Forum provides “a dedicated space for the conversations that matter most to you.” The app brings together discussions from groups users already belong to while also recommending new communities based on their interests.
Unlike the traditional Facebook experience where group posts appear alongside friend updates, pages, and recommended content, the Facebook Groups app focuses mainly on community discussions. This creates a cleaner and more organized environment for users who prefer niche conversations and interest-based communities.
One interesting feature in the Meta Forum app is the onboarding process. When users sign in for the first time, they are asked about the type of content and conversations they want to see more often. This helps personalize the feed and improve recommendations from similar groups.
Posts shared through Forum automatically sync with the main Facebook platform. This means users can interact from either app without losing conversations or updates.
To access the platform, users must already have a Facebook account. The app also allows anonymized usernames for public interactions, similar to existing Facebook anonymous posting options. However, group admins will still be able to identify the real account behind anonymous usernames for moderation purposes.
Meta AI features are also integrated into the app. One AI tool called “Ask” can search across a user’s joined groups and pull relevant answers without manually browsing each community. Another AI-powered feature assists group moderators with administrative and moderation tasks.
This is not the first time Meta has experimented with a separate groups-focused app. The company previously launched a standalone Facebook Groups application years ago before shutting it down in 2017.
Many users are already comparing Forum to Reddit because of its emphasis on discussions, real-user recommendations, question-and-answer content, and niche communities.
The launch of Forum may signal Meta’s renewed focus on online communities and conversational social networking as competition among social media platforms continues to grow.
